Soft, wholesome whole wheat loaf ideal for everyday sandwiches and toasting, with a tender crumb and golden crust.

# What You Need:

→ Dry Ingredients

01 - 3 cups whole wheat flour (375 g)
02 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (25 g)
03 - 1 1/2 teaspoons salt (7 g)
04 - 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (7 g, 1 packet)

→ Wet Ingredients

05 - 1 cup warm water (240 ml, approximately 110°F/43°C)
06 - 1/4 cup milk (60 ml, dairy or unsweetened plant-based, lukewarm)
07 - 2 tablespoons neutral oil (30 ml, e.g., canola or sunflower)
08 - 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (15 ml, optional)

# How To Make:

01 - In a large bowl, mix whole wheat flour, granulated sugar, salt, and instant yeast until evenly blended.
02 - In a separate container, combine warm water, milk, neutral oil, and honey if using.
03 - Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
04 - Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface or with a stand mixer dough hook for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
05 - Shape the dough into a ball, place it in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, approximately 1 hour.
06 - Punch down the dough and shape it into a log. Place it into a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
07 - Cover and let the dough rise until it rises about 1 inch above the rim of the pan, roughly 30 to 45 minutes.
08 - Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
09 - Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped. Tent with foil if browning too quickly during the last 10 minutes.
10 - Remove from oven, cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
